  FUNNY FACE COOKIES

I can't remember just when Annie and her Mom started making Funny Face Cookies but it's been a long time. Annie always wants people to smile and be happy. Maybe she was trying to make her brothers smile (which is always an issue with older brothers.) Or maybe she wanted to thank her grandparents for all the nice things they do for the family. But probably it was just a rainy day and she wanted to do something special with her Mom.

So here are a few recipes that I think you'll like too. And please send me your Funny Face Cookie recipes and I'll post them on my site.     info@janetmcluhan.com

Annie's Funny Face Cookies

Annie makes Funny Face Cookies every Saturday morning with her Mom.  Of course every week the cookies are different and every cookie has its own personality. That's what makes it fun! She squashes each ball with her fingers dipping then in water so they won't stick. She sculpts the cookie dough to a whole variety of shapes and after they cool on the rack she begins to dress them up. She loves to use M&M's, gummies, odd looking crackers and pretzels. Anything you like to use is OK. The icing is the glue that keeps everything in place. These cookies really taste great!

Recipe for Funny Face Cookies:

Chocolate-Chip Cookies from "The Silver Palate Cookbook" by Julee Rosso & Sheila Lukins.

1/2 pound sweet butter softened

1 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

Note: Annie didn't add chocolate chips to the batter because she knew the faces would be filled with good stuff!

1. Preheat oven to 325 F. for giant cookies; 350 F. for regular size cookies. Grease a cookie sheet.

2. Cream butter and both sugars together until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and mix well.

3. Sift dry ingredients together and stir in, mixing thoroughly. Form large or small cookies on the cookie sheet any way you like.

4. Bake on the middle rack for 15 to 17 minutes for large cookies; 8 to 10 minutes for regular cookies. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes on the cookie sheet. Transfer cookies to a rack to cool completely.

Icing Glaze: 1/4 cup of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon milk. Mix thoroughly until the glaze is thick as syrup. Add food coloring - any color you want!
